EXPLANATION

A SUBNETSUB NET, SUB-NET, SUBUNIT, SUBLET, SUBSET, SUNBED, SONNET, SUBBED, SUNNED, SIGNET, SUBMIT, SUBORNED, SUBVERT, SPINET IS A SUBDIVISION OF A TCP/IP [4] NETWORK.

SubnetsSub nets, Sub-nets, Subunits, Sublets, Subsets, Subunit's, Sunbeds, Sonnets, Signets, Submits, Subset's, Subverts, Spinets, Sonnet's, Signet's, Spinet's can be large or small, but generally, smaller subnetssub nets, sub-nets, subunits, sublets, subsets, subunit's, sunbeds, sonnets, signets, submits, subset's, subverts, spinets, sonnet's, signet's, spinet's make
for more efficient Routing [5].

As an example, say you had a private TCP/IP network with the address
range:
192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255. This gives you 65536 addresses. If you
had that many devices on your network you would probably be swamped
with Broadcast [6] traffic and things would slow to a crawl.

Your network or subnetsub net, sub-net, subunit, sublet, subset, sunbed, sonnet, subbed, sunned, signet, submit, suborned, subvert, spinet is defined by its SUBNETSUB NET, SUB-NET, SUBUNIT, SUBLET, SUBSET, SUNBED, SONNET, SUBBED, SUNNED, SIGNET, SUBMIT, SUBORNED, SUBVERT, SPINET MASK or NETMASK.

In the example above your netmasknet mask, net-mask, damask, Tomsk, mask, nets, task, unmask, Netta's, nutmegs, net's, teams, Nebraska, namesake, Nerta's, tams, nutmeg, steams, Denmark, Tamas, Tomas, nutcase, Norma's, network, nutmeats, Artemas, Edams, items, nomads, stems, Nata's, Neda's, Nita's, Tomaso, networks, nutmeg's, Tm's, desk, masc, musk, tusk, Donetsk, Natka's, item's, stem's, Naoma's, Nedda's, Nerte's, Nerti's, Nerty's, Netti's, Netty's, team's, Dem's, Nam's, Toma's, Tam's, tam's, steam's, Noam's, Noemi's, nutmeat's, Edam's, nomad's, Denmark's, network's is
255.255.0.0 - in Windows terminology
192.168.0.0/16 - in Unix terminology

The parts in BOLD are the actual netmasknet mask, net-mask, damask, Tomsk, mask, nets, task, unmask, Netta's, nutmegs, net's, teams, Nebraska, namesake, Nerta's, tams, nutmeg, steams, Denmark, Tamas, Tomas, nutcase, Norma's, network, nutmeats, Artemas, Edams, items, nomads, stems, Nata's, Neda's, Nita's, Tomaso, networks, nutmeg's, Tm's, desk, masc, musk, tusk, Donetsk, Natka's, item's, stem's, Naoma's, Nedda's, Nerte's, Nerti's, Nerty's, Netti's, Netty's, team's, Dem's, Nam's, Toma's, Tam's, tam's, steam's, Noam's, Noemi's, nutmeat's, Edam's, nomad's, Denmark's, network's specification.

The first IPIPA, OP, UP, PI, IO, IMP, I, P, AP, KIP, PIP, RIP, VIP, DIP, HIP, LIP, NIP, SIP, TIP, YIP, ZIP, IA, IE, IR, PP, WP, II, DP, GP, HP, ID, IL, IN, IQ, IT, IV, JP, KP, LP, MP address of your subnetsub net, sub-net, subunit, sublet, subset, sunbed, sonnet, subbed, sunned, signet, submit, suborned, subvert, spinet is always the NETWORK ADDRESS and
the last IPIPA, OP, UP, PI, IO, IMP, I, P, AP, KIP, PIP, RIP, VIP, DIP, HIP, LIP, NIP, SIP, TIP, YIP, ZIP, IA, IE, IR, PP, WP, II, DP, GP, HP, ID, IL, IN, IQ, IT, IV, JP, KP, LP, MP address is almost always the BROADCAST ADDRESS. These are
special addresses reserved by the TCP/IP protocol for doing special
things. That means you always have two less IPIPA, OP, UP, PI, IO, IMP, I, P, AP, KIP, PIP, RIP, VIP, DIP, HIP, LIP, NIP, SIP, TIP, YIP, ZIP, IA, IE, IR, PP, WP, II, DP, GP, HP, ID, IL, IN, IQ, IT, IV, JP, KP, LP, MP addresses that you can
use for your devices than what your netmasknet mask, net-mask, damask, Tomsk, mask, nets, task, unmask, Netta's, nutmegs, net's, teams, Nebraska, namesake, Nerta's, tams, nutmeg, steams, Denmark, Tamas, Tomas, nutcase, Norma's, network, nutmeats, Artemas, Edams, items, nomads, stems, Nata's, Neda's, Nita's, Tomaso, networks, nutmeg's, Tm's, desk, masc, musk, tusk, Donetsk, Natka's, item's, stem's, Naoma's, Nedda's, Nerte's, Nerti's, Nerty's, Netti's, Netty's, team's, Dem's, Nam's, Toma's, Tam's, tam's, steam's, Noam's, Noemi's, nutmeat's, Edam's, nomad's, Denmark's, network's specifies.

In the above example the Network address is 192.168.0.0 and the
Broadcast Address is 192.168.255.255. That leaves you with 65534
addresses.

Suppose you wanted to subdivide a part off of the very large subnetsub net, sub-net, subunit, sublet, subset, sunbed, sonnet, subbed, sunned, signet, submit, suborned, subvert, spinet
in the above example. You could start your new subnetsub net, sub-net, subunit, sublet, subset, sunbed, sonnet, subbed, sunned, signet, submit, suborned, subvert, spinet with the address
192.168.1.0. If you wanted 256 addresses your netmasknet mask, net-mask, damask, Tomsk, mask, nets, task, unmask, Netta's, nutmegs, net's, teams, Nebraska, namesake, Nerta's, tams, nutmeg, steams, Denmark, Tamas, Tomas, nutcase, Norma's, network, nutmeats, Artemas, Edams, items, nomads, stems, Nata's, Neda's, Nita's, Tomaso, networks, nutmeg's, Tm's, desk, masc, musk, tusk, Donetsk, Natka's, item's, stem's, Naoma's, Nedda's, Nerte's, Nerti's, Nerty's, Netti's, Netty's, team's, Dem's, Nam's, Toma's, Tam's, tam's, steam's, Noam's, Noemi's, nutmeat's, Edam's, nomad's, Denmark's, network's would be:

255.255.255.0 or 192.168.1.0/24.

If you wanted another, even smaller subnetsub net, sub-net, subunit, sublet, subset, sunbed, sonnet, subbed, sunned, signet, submit, suborned, subvert, spinet somewhere else in the
larger address range above, say 16 addresses, and you wanted the
address
192.168.70.45 to be within that address range (for whatever reason).

Your netmasknet mask, net-mask, damask, Tomsk, mask, nets, task, unmask, Netta's, nutmegs, net's, teams, Nebraska, namesake, Nerta's, tams, nutmeg, steams, Denmark, Tamas, Tomas, nutcase, Norma's, network, nutmeats, Artemas, Edams, items, nomads, stems, Nata's, Neda's, Nita's, Tomaso, networks, nutmeg's, Tm's, desk, masc, musk, tusk, Donetsk, Natka's, item's, stem's, Naoma's, Nedda's, Nerte's, Nerti's, Nerty's, Netti's, Netty's, team's, Dem's, Nam's, Toma's, Tam's, tam's, steam's, Noam's, Noemi's, nutmeat's, Edam's, nomad's, Denmark's, network's would be
255.255.255.240 or 192.168.70.32/28

192.168.70.32 would be your Network Address
192.168.70.47 would be your Broadcast Address
